Blogging, when used properly, can a very powerful tool to assist you in bringing more traffic to your website and in the long run translate into money in your bank account. Unfortunately, many bloggers make four common mistakes which prevent them from making a profit from their blogging activities.  I will address these four mistakes in this article.

To have a profitable blog you need to be consistent in your postings.  It is important that you have fresh, unique content on your blog on a regular basis.  These actions are what bring the search engines in to index your site.  After your site has been indexed, your relative keywords will direct people to your site producing higher traffic volumes.

The content you are posting must be helpful and able to hold your visitors’ attention.  This type of information will prompt people to bookmark your blog and come back often to read your posts.  Besides good content, you also want to include intriguing images and even videos.

The lack of, or improper use of keywords on your site will hamper your success. Once you have created the content for your post go back through and note all of the keywords that will apply to your niche.  A rule of thumb for using keywords is to minimally use them in your title, your first paragraph and in your last paragraph.  This will increase your visibility with the search engines.

Take advantage of your earning potential on your blog.  Promote your own products and services.  This is your “showroom”.  Use your blog to draw attention to affiliate programs you are involved in.  Be sure your affiliate links are included in whatever banners or ads you have on your site.  This is where you can make good use of widgets on your blog.  Do not forget to take advantage of Google Adsense ads.  This will require installing a plugin for this function.  If you do not already have a Google Adsense account, you will need to get one.  After you have activated this plugin go to “Settngs”, click on Adsense, and make sure that the plugin is properly formatted. You will make money whenever a visitor to your site clicks on these ads.  It is important that you do not click on these ads or your account will be canceled.

I hope addressing these four common mistakes that bloggers make will increase the volume of traffic to your site  and your revenue.
